At the International School of Beijing, teaching and learning is our passion. Admission and placement decisions are made by an Admissions Committee in each school division. These committees are composed of the division principal, counselor, teachers, and specialists. The following details are put into consideration:
The student's age.
School records and recommendations forms.
Results on any entrance screening, particularly writing samples.
Slot availability in the appropriate grade / program.
At the High School level, an applicant's grade placement will also be based on academic credits earned towards graduation.
Procedures
Once we have received your application, we will email you for any missing documents. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Once all required documents are received, we will then process your application assuming vacancy is available. Children with special needs are admitted on a case-by-case basis. When necessary, further academic and diagnostic testing may be required.
Children who enroll in ISB from schools with different school calendars (i.e. January to November vs. August to June) will be placed in the grade they are currently attending (if enrolled in the beginning of the ISB school year), or in the grade which he/she has just completed if enrolled in the second semester in ISB.
If a child enrolls in ISB during the school year, there is a 48 hour teacher notification period from the time of the acceptance letter (sent by email) to the parents to the child’s first day of school.
