영화학에는 영화사(Film History), 시나리오(Screen Writing), 영화제작(Film Production)으로 나눌 수 있다.
영화사를 공부하는 학생들은 영화의 제작기법보다는 영화의 이론적 측면에 치중한다. 영화사를 공부하는 일반적인 분야는 History, Theory, Criticim of Film, Analysis이다. 학과목중에서는 장르별로 다양하며 서부영화나
현대에 이르러서는 공상과학 영화, 그리고 뮤지컬 , 모노드라마, 전쟁영화, 심리 영화, 특수영화 등 다양하게
공부한다.
시나리오는 시나리오 구조, 포맷 ,시나리오 편집 기술, 인물의 특성,구성요건을 들 수 있다. 이 때 학생들은
기성화 되어 있는 영화의 시나리오와 원작과의 비교, 상업성, 시나리오의 특성 등을 배우게 된다.
영화제작과에서 배우는 과목들은 Video 또는 Super 8mm카메라조작법, 시나리오 선별, 조명과 노출을 비롯한
카메라기술, 편집, Visual Communication등이다. 2,3학년 때는 16mm음향카메라, 고급 편집기술을 배운다.
대학원 진학학생에게는 포트폴리오 제작과정을 가르치며 제작기법 외에도 영화주제 선정, 제작비 산정법,제작관리, 음향효과, 레코팅, Mixing 등의 다양한 기법을 배운다.
